Thank you very much to My Planet Liverpool for this extract from forthcoming coverage. Just a few thoughts to the editor from our client, Paul Nicholson, CEO Nicholson Developments in his war room!
“Paul’s story is one of focus, vision and keeping both eyes on the prize at all times.
“He’s never spent time overthinking his experiences because regardless of all the lessons (from buying his first terraced property in 2007 to ending up with a property portfolio of £40m in 2025) he’s never veered from his path.
“That’s pretty much his story.
“Yes, he’s taken some very big risks but they were always calculated given his ultimate goal in mind.
“And of course, he’s learnt some invaluable lessons along the way.
“These include knowing what it takes each time he takes on a bigger and brand new type of investment – he’s gone from refurbishing terraced houses until it became procedural and efficient, similarly, when moving on to acquiring small blocks of flats, then bigger blocks and then buying his first big conversion scheme.
“He’ll acknowledge that growing the business is where the pain/challenges have been but he’s become very good at delegation – huge for the business and himself, professionally and personally.
“Understanding the value of space and time to reach a gut-based decision has also been huge.
“Maturity (he’s only just 40) has seen Paul acknowledge the value of equanimity (composure) in all relationships to achieve the best outcome. He retains the belief that nobody will work harder than him in pursuing his goals but he does that now with a smarter mindset too.
“In terms of advice to others, Paul says follow your gut, always. Give yourself time to reflect. Create the right people with the right culture in your team. Have close confidantes whose brains you can occasionally pick but keep that circle small. In the end, it comes back down to you anyway. Have fear of the unknown as you grow but always remember, harking back to the first point, keep your focus on the end game and know that any uncertainty is just part of the ride.”
