THE MERSEY FOREST AND LORD MAYOR PLANT OAK TREE TO COMMEMORATE 80 YEARS SINCE END OF WORLD WAR II

By Joel Jelen

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Barbara Murray met with members of The Mersey Forest team to plant a new oak tree commemorating the 80th anniversary since the end of World War II.

Joined by The Mersey Forest CEO Paul Nolan and councillor colleagues Laura Robertson-Collins and Kimberley Berry at Clarkes Gardens, the Lord Mayor echoed Paul’s comments that we’re losing lots of people who remember those times, hence the importance of building something into the landscape to commemorate this forever.

She said: “What a wonderful legacy. I didn’t know that about the oak, that it represents 80 years. I just think it’s fantastic, and it’s also commemorating VE Day and VJ Day. So 80 years is really important and it’s this year and only this year that we can plant oaks in memory of that.”
